breathing space
yippee!! my main computer is back to good health after too bloody a long time..ooh..first things first...
Selamat beraye people!!
a lot of things happened during this past month, but am not going to be so anal as to recount everything. i've experienced plenty of highs and one or two lows..so yeah, i'm doing pretty good...but this doesn't include my assignments though.
my eyebags are seriously killing me..i'm done with 3 major assignments, so i can sleep a bit before continueing with the remaining ones - a sort of article review, a 2500 word essay and a pair work project with Lyana the dearie on hmm...how do i describe it...a comparative linguistic analyses on the Malay and Tutong language. the good news is that i don't have to mug for any exams (this is our 4th lucky strike of having able to celebrate hari raya without it clashing with our exams - thank you God ;)) and that there's enough time to complete my assignments without resorting to late nights.
i finally watched Remp-it...and i think it deliberately tries to be controversial with some sex-imbued scenes but i feel it lacks substance and impact. the plot is too loose, the character development wasn't done deep enough (i'm still trying to find the relevance of Aqasha's character to the entire story)... though the motorcycle stunts are an eye-opener. the message it wants to convey to the audience is done in an amatuerish way - it lacks finesse- the supposed tragic ending didn't leave me in tears. i think KL Menjerit (the original one) is the standard to reach, not to mention beat. what an anti-climax.
and high school musical was such a cookie-cutter teenage story. my sis' friends were crazy about the movie and khats wanted to see for herself. she felt cheated of her $2.50 rent money. it was just too corny for me...though i thought it was sweet in its corniness.Ganyut is a must if you want to laugh your guts out.
She's the Man was just hilarious though. now that's what i call a good chick flick. i liked it so much, i bought one for myself after i'd returned the rented one. the movies i'm looking forward to watch are Step Upand the Black Dahlia. and isn't channing tatum such an abang-abang guy?
the raya pics i'll post soon.
it's difficult to forget first loves.

Missed opportunities just drives me nuts!
I’m supposed to have touched down in Singapore today after a 5 day fieldwork at Hatyai, in southern Thailand. But due to safety reasons, the trip was cancelled after that horrible bombing in Hatyai two Sundays ago, the military coup and the ousting of Thaksin from his seat. on one hand, I’m disappointed as hell because I felt robbed of a valuable study experience, but on the other hand, I’m grateful to God in heaven that the whole shenanigan happened before all of us arrived there.
shudder…4 days separated the trip from the bombing.. now that, is a pretty close call.
and till today, the ladies and I are still waiting for the insurance company to refund our flight money due to travel cancellation. I don’t pre-judge people based on the usual stereotype associated with their jobs…but this insurance agent is wearing it pretty thin. nevertheless, we’re still going to wait patiently till maybe next week.
the national library at bras basah is lovely. went there with the ladies yesterday for our group discussion and yep, I loooooove it.
and don’t get me started on Hady Mirza…don’t know about you, but my most favourite of all his performances was when he sang ‘heaven’. followed by ‘you give me wings’. followed by ‘lagenda’. followed by…you get the picture.ahaha.
psst Imah! thank you for the Hady songs!
and lyana and i went chocolate-crazy at The Cocoa Trees.
women + chocolate = hello?!!

flummoxed
so yesterday, Lyana and i went to Bugis. it has been toolong since i've been to Bugis...which basically meant shoes (terlalu kawaii!) and some chilling with coffee bean's belgium chocolate ice blended.yummmmm.
and i pointed out the Destinee diamond ring to Lyana at Lee Hwa. both of us finally dug out the courage (after a pretty long time of ooh-ing and aahh-ing) to ask the friendly sales person the cost of the diamond ring.
1.5 carats.perfect cut. costs around $13,000. *and the mind boggles*.

all that glitters
met the practicum mates yesterday…well ¾ of the whole lot anyway because teachers have many, many meetings and courses to go to during the holidays. went bowling at the new CSC building..eh, got 1 strike leh…not bad, aye? ahaha…with Jam, met April for a while then both Jam and I met DJ at Westmall. after dinner, we ended up choosing wedding bands for DJ…he wanted our opinion on which rings to choose…the funny bits was when the sales people kept giving the guy rings to DJ and the smaller, more delicately made woman’s ring to me and that I had to keep telling them that I wasn’t his intended..ahaha..funny lah.
Lyana babe, the Destinee diamond rings are right up your alley.. there’s this one ring that has a big, but not distastefully big diamond…and the cut and clarity is soooo beautiful. I swear, after looking at the Destinee rings, other diamond rings are like play things (quote unquote from Jam).
Pretty Persuasion with Juana and Shikin last Monday night. I like the movie, regardless of the bad review that it got from Berita Harian. I disagree with the ‘critic’ that the whole story line is weak and a waste of time. the heavy issues are explored in a light-hearted manner with more than enough tongue-in-cheek humour to make the social-satire intelligent. and of course the root cause of the whole debacle is therefore considered immature, like hello, the main character is really only 15 years old. the only loose end is why did the Muslim girl, Randa, have to kill herself. that’s the only complaint I have because the reason wasn’t explored and presented in a genuine manner.
ooh..and Juana cherie…I still owe you a birthday prezzie;)

the unthinkable sightings
i just have to write about this. ladies, there is hope for singaporean women yet. chivalry is not yet dead. this early morning, while on the usual bus being squashed right, left, front and back, a young Chinese guy in Civil Defence uniform gave up his seat. as i sat in the empty seat, i was wondering why in hell did he decide to stand when the CD academy was still a bloody long way off. he smiled and then i realised it. chivalry is not yet dead. hallelujah! i finally met the mythical singaporean gentleman.
ps)there are more of these wonderful men. the ones who open doors, hold open lift doors and offer to carry the heavy stuffs. we women just need to smile and acknowledge them more instead of being embarrassed by their attention.

juiced up
I’ve finally, FINALLY, changed my old h/p for a new one…it’s so funny how I’ve been bugged by friends and family to please, just please get a new model…ahaha…obit sangat ke telefon bimbit lama aku yang dulu tu..but I really like the functions of me new h/p..new functions I’ve not experienced before, that is..haha. I’m going to go stroke it some more.
The Devil Wears Prada is a good one to go watch. highly recommendable. Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway both looked so deliciously stylish as Priestly and Saks..Meryl’s so untouchably chic. and yo, don’t get me started on the shoes. now watching movies at 11.30 pm on Fridays has become a once-in-a-while treat for the family. the littlest sis was so chuffed to be able to stay up so late at night. a veritable energizer bunny until her head hits the pillow..it’s amazing how she immediately falls asleep, then. sometimes I wish I could do that. I usually fall asleep while thinking about things or people or whatever it is that I’m thinking about at that time. which is pointless anyway because I never remember what it is that I was thinking about in the morning. so there’s a bit of Diana-ism for you.
and I got a very good bargain for an SD card reader from a really nice salesman at Harvey Norman this afternoon. initially I thought the cashier keyed in the wrong price but nope, he assured me that it’s the right price. and he has such a charming, sincere smile.
Janet Evanovich’s latest Stephanie Plum novel entitled ‘twelve sharp’ has been out for quite some time now…but it’s in the large print edition which I just don’t like…so I’m just waiting for the paperback edition to turn up in the bookstores. Ranger, Morelli…the eternal dilemma.
and it boggles me a little, this current craving for soya bean milk and curd.
current book list
“The Zahir” – Paulo Coelho
